Latest Walking Dead spin-off confirmed as anthology series to launch next summer

The original The Walking Dead debuted in 2010

AMC Networks in the US has greenlit the latest spin-off from its hit zombie drama The Walking Dead, this time in the form of an anthology series.

Set in the world of the original series, Tales of the Walking Dead will feature one-hour standalone episodes focusing on both new and established characters.

The series order comes after the release of fellow spin-offs Fear the Walking Dead and The Walking Dead: World Beyond, which debuted in 2015 and 2020 respectively. Another spin-off, featuring the characters Daryl and Carol from the original show, is also in the works.

Channing Powell, who has been a writer and producer on The Walking Dead and  Fear the Walking Dead, will showrun Tales of the Walking Dead, working closely with Scott M Gimple, chief content officer of the Walking Dead Universe. AMC Studios will produce.

An initial season of six episodes of Tales of the Walking Dead is expected to go into production early next year ahead of premiering on AMC+ and AMC next summer.

The Walking Dead, which is based on a comic book series by Robert Kirkman, Charlie Adlard, and Tony Moore, made its debut on AMC in 2010 and is the most watched series in cable history.

The show’s 11th and final season, comprising 24 episodes, launched this summer and is due to conclude in 2022.

We see so much potential for a wide range of rich and compelling storytelling in this world, and the episodic anthology format of Tales of the Walking Dead will give us the flexibility to entertain existing fans and also offer an entry point for new viewers, especially on streaming platforms.”
