Indonesian streamer Vidio greenlights originals from Wattpad projects

Indonesian streaming platform Vidio has greenlit five original productions based on hit stories from Canada-based Wattpad’s digital storytelling platform.

The commissions come after Vidio renewed and expanded its deal to adapt Wattpad stories with Wattpad Webtoon Studios and Screenplay Films, the Indonesian prodco that will produce the original series.

The deal also marks one of the first streaming slates from Wattpad Webtoon Studios, following South Korean internet conglomerate Naver’s acquisition of Wattpad in May for US$600m, aligning Wattpad with its own company Webtoon.

The ordered shows are Married With Senior, which follows two students who are being set up in an arranged marriage and discover it could be the perfect match; and Daniel & Nicolette, a romcom focusing on a relationship between a musician and the CEO of a TV station.

My Ice Girl, meanwhile, is about a man determined to solve the mystery surrounding his younger sister’s death, while Mari Jangan Saling Jatuh Cinta follows a man who is secretly in love with his best friend. Finally, My Nerd Girl follows a woman as she goes on a quest to find out what really happened when her twin sister died in an apparent suicide.

Wicky V Olindo will serve as producer on the five projects, while executive producers are Sutanto Hartono, Hermawan Sutanto and Tina Arwin for Vidio; Anthony Buncio for Screenplay Films; and Aron Levitz, Eric Lehrman and Dexter Ong for Wattpad Webtoon Studios.
