Hulu visits Devil in the White City with Keanu Reeves, The Other Black Girl

Disney-owned streamer Hulu has commissioned two drama series for its originals slate: Devil in the White City, starring Keanu Reeves, and The Other Black Girl.

Devil in the White City is based on Erik Larson’s novel about the real-life story of Daniel H Burnham, a demanding but visionary architect who races to make his mark on history with the 1893 Chicago World’s Fair, and Dr H H Holmes, America’s first modern serial killer and the man behind the notorious ‘Murder Castle’ built in the fair’s shadow.

The series will be produced by ABC Signature in association with Paramount and Leonardo DiCaprio’s Appian Way Productions. DiCaprio and Reeves exec produce with Martin Scorsese, Rick Yorn, Jennifer Davisson and Stacey Sher. It will be written by Sam Shaw and directed by Todd Field.

The Other Black Girl, meanwhile, tells the story of editorial assistant Nella who, tired of being the only black girl at her company, is excited when Hazel is hired. But as Hazel’s star begins to rise, Nella spirals out and discovers something sinister is going on at the company.

The series is based on Zakiya Dalila Harris’ novel of the same name and will be produced by Disney’s Onyx Collective. Exec producing are Rashida Jones, Tara Duncan, Adam Fishbach, Dalila Harris and Danielle Henderson, who is also showrunner. Temple Hill’s founders Marty Bowen and Wyck Godfrey also exec produce.
