HBO taps ABC exec for drama role

HBO has poached an ABC executive to head its drama series development as part of a management rejig at the US cable network.

Jocelyn Diaz has been VP of primetime drama series and development at ABC for the last three years, working on series such as Lost, Ugly Betty and NYPD Blue. She joins HBO Entertainment in the new position of VP of drama series, overseeing development and production of longform drama.

“Jocelyn’s approach to development is one that works to preserve and support the writer’s vision,” said HBO Entertainment president Sue Naegle. “She has excellent relationships in the creative community and is a great fit for HBO.”

HBO has also upped current VP Casey Bloys to senior VP of comedy series. The promotion reflects Bloys’ work on series such as Flight of the Conchords, Life and Times of Tim and new season offerings Hung and Bored to Death.

“Comedy isn’t something you can teach; either you know it or you don’t,” said Naegle. “Casey has a natural ability and a great eye for talent. It’s hard to imagine HBO’s comedy department without his guidance and leadership.”
