HBO Max EMEA, SBS pick up BBC’s Jack Caffery crime novel adaptation Wolf

HBO Max EMEA and Australian pubcaster SBS have picked up the rights to forthcoming BBC crime thriller Wolf.

Based on Mo Hayder’s Jack Caffery series of novels, Wolf (6×60’) tells the story of a young police detective who is obsessed with the neighbour he believes murdered his 10-year-old brother.

Produced by Hartswood Films and APC Studios in association with Creative Wales, filming for Wolf has begun in Wales.

It is written and adapted by Megan Gallagher and stars Ukweli Roach (Humans, The Midwich Cuckoos, Blindspot) in the lead role of DI Caffery.

Joining the ensemble cast are Sacha Dhawan (Doctor Who, Marvel’s Iron Fist), Iwan Rheon (Game of Thrones, Riviera), Sian Reese-Williams (Hidden, Line of Duty), Juliet Stevenson (Out of Her Mind, Bend it Like Beckham) and Owen Teale (Line of Duty, Game of Thrones).

The executive producers are Elaine Cameron for Hartswood Films, Laurent Boissel for APC Studios, Ben Irving for the BBC, Kristoffer Nyholm (The Killing, Taboo) and Megan Gallagher. Nyholm is also directing the first three episodes, with Lee Haven Jones (The Bay, The Long Call) directing the final three. Nikki Wilson (Doctor Who, The Sarah Jane Adventures) is the producer.

Distributed by APC, Wolf was commissioned by Piers Wenger, director of BBC Drama, Nick Andrews, BBC Wales’ head of commissioning and Charlotte Moore, chief content officer at the BBC.
