Fremantle and Kansai TV partner up to develop new gameshow format

Fremantle’s Vasha Wallace and Kansai TV’s Miho Okada

MIPCOM: European production company Fremantle has today announced a co-development deal to develop a new gameshow format with Japan’s commercial broadcaster, Kansai TV.

Kansai will produce and broadcast the entertainment show, with Fremantle handling global distribution, though details of what the format will entail are still under wraps.

“We have started to exchange ideas with Fremantle’s development team,” said Miho Okada, executive managing director at Kansai TV. “We hope the format will travel to many countries and regions.”

Fremantle has tapped the Japanese market before, notably when it formed an alliance with broadcaster Fuji Television to create formats such as Hole in the Wall, Total Blackout and The Noise.

“Japan is such an interesting and creative market,” said Vasha Wallace, executive VP global acquisitions and development at Fremantle. “We look forward to sharing more about this exciting format soon.”
