Fox gives its verdict on BBC’s Accused

Sheridan Smith in BBC1’s original Accused

US network Fox is adapting UK pubcaster the BBC’s crime anthology series Accused to launch in the 2022/23 season.

The show follows people awaiting the verdict of their trial, without the audience immediately knowing what they have been on trial for. The viewer sees the events replayed from the accused’s point of view throughout the episode.

The US version was created by executive producers Howard Gordon and Alex Gansa (Homeland) and David Shoren (The Good Doctor). Both are nearly half way through a four-year writing deal with Sony Pictures Television, which produces the series.

Fox is understood to have ordered the scripts for the series in January, to allow more time for development due to the global pandemic.

Glenn Geller, Erin Gunn, All3Media America’s Jacob Cohen-Holmes and All3Media International’s Jimmy McGovern, Sita Williams and Roxy Spencer are also executive producing.

The series is a coproduction from Sony Pictures Television, All3Media America and Fox Entertainment. All3Media International is handling sales.

The UK show original ran for two seasons from 2010, starring Christopher Eccleston, Sheridan Smith, Sean Bean and Olivia Colman.
