Euro nets make Atlantic Crossing

MIPCOM: Broadcasters in Italy, Germany, France, Russia and Greece have picked up Scandinavian drama Atlantic Crossing ahead of its Cannes premiere this week.

The 8×60’ series has been licensed to Italian pubcaster Rai TV, Deutsche Telekom’s Magenta TV for Germany and Austria, and France’s Chérie 25.

German distributor Beta Film has also sold the show to More.tv in Russia, Australian pubcaster SBS, Forthnet in Greece and Cyprus, and LRT in Lithuania.

The show stars Kyle MacLachlan (Twin Peaks, Desperate Housewives) and Sofia Helen (The Bridge). Directed by Alexander Eik and set during World War II, the series is based on the true story of Norwegian Crown Princess Märtha becoming an influential figure in world politics.

After fleeing from Norway and seeking refuge in the White House, she tries to convince President Franklin D Roosevelt to help save her country and Europe from the Nazis.

The drama is set for its premiere on commissioning broadcaster NRK in Norway on October 26 and is produced by Cinenord in coproduction with Beta Film. Its screening is part of the Canneseries event taking place in France this week, and the digital version of Mipcom, which begins on Monday.
