Discovery signs with AOL, ups Daniels

Discovery Communications has signed a shortform content deal with AOL and expanded the remit of senior exec Nancy Daniels.

The deal with AOL will add videos from Discovery Channel, TLC, Animal Planet, Investigation Discovery and others to The AOL On Network library.

NATPE 2013Content will be programmed into On Network’s 14 channels and shared across the AOL On video hub. Clips and videos will be taken from shows including Mythbusters and Say Yes to the Dress.

The move follows Discovery’s acquisition of digital video specialist Revision3 in May last year. On Network will also offer content from DNews, the recently launched online video series from Discovery and Revision3.

In related news, Discovery has expanded the responsibility of executive VP for production and development on the West Coast, Nancy Daniels.

As well as her existing role, where she is now focused on live programming initiatives for Discovery Channel such as recent special Chopper Live, Daniels will now also be general manager of Discovery Fitness and Health, overseeing development and programming for the network.

Daniels, based in LA, will report to Eileen O’Neill, group president of Discovery and TLC Networks.

Daniels left CBS to join Discovery in 2007, initially as VP of development.
