Canada’s APTN takes a stroll down Treaty Road with historical docuseries

Treaty Road began filming in October

Canadian indigenous broadcast network Aboriginal Peoples Television Network (APTN) has ordered a six-part docuseries exploring the signing of the Numbered Treaties, a series of 11 treaties inked between the First Nations Peoples and the reigning monarch of Canada from 1871 to 1921.

Treaty Road, produced by 3 Story Pictures and Blue Hill Productions, began filming in October across Ontario, Manitoba, Saskatchewan and Alberta and is scheduled to wrap next month. The hour-long docuseries will air on APTN later this year.

The project follows Dakota/Anishinaabekwe educator and researcher Erin Goodpipe and Métis writer, director and producer Saxon de Cocq on a personal and communal journey as they look to uncover the truth about the signing of the Numbered Treaties.

The project is produced by de Cocq, Hannah Hermanson and Ell McEachern for 3 Story Pictures, and executive produced by Doug Cuthand of Blue Hill Productions. Candy Renae Fox (The Other Side, Big Brother Canada) is directing and will also serve as a producer.

The project is made with the financial support of the Canada Media Fund and Creative Saskatchewan.
