AMC Networks takes on New Zealand’s Good Grief, co-commissions second run

Good Grief will launch on Sundance Now at the end of this month

AMC Networks has acquired exclusive North American and UK premiere rights to New Zealand comedy web series Good Grief for cablenet IFC and SVoD service Sundance Now, alongside co-commissioning a second season of the show.

Produced by New Zealand’s Brown Sugar Apple Grunt Productions, Good Grief is a six-episode series set in a small New Zealand town. It centres on two millennial sisters with clashing personalities who inherit a funeral home from their grandfather.

The first season will make its US, Canadian and UK premiere on Sundance Now on September 30, with IFC hosting the North American broadcast premiere on October 4.

Production on season two will begin this year, with a premiere date set for 2022. Episode lengths will be increased from 15 minutes each in S1 to 20 minutes for S2.

The show is the creation of sisters Eve and Grace Palmer, the latter of whom starred in Kiwi soap opera Shortland Street from 2014 to 2017.

Good Grief S1 was directed by Kiel McNaughton and produced by Angela Cudd and Kerry Warkia. The same creative personnel and talent are on board for S2.
