AMC eyes new comic book adaptation

US network AMC has given the okay to a pilot based on characters from the Preacher comic book series, which is being adapted by Seth Rogen and Evan Goldberg.

The show is being produced by Sony Pictures Television and AMC Studios, with Breaking Bad’s Sam Catlin writing the script and attached as showrunner. Rogen and Glodberg will exec produce.

Preacher follows a religious leader living in Texas who is taken over by a creature from heaven, and sets off with an ex-girlfriend and an Irish vampire to find god. The comic, from DC Comics-owned Vertigo, ran from 1995 until 2000.

AMC has already enjoyed huge success with fellow comic book remake The Walking Dead, while the trend has also seen NBC greenlight an adaptation of DC Comics’ Constantine and The CW rework The Flash and Arrow.
