Amazon Prime Video orders Spanish-language remake of I Love Lucy comedy

All For Lucy

Global streaming service Amazon Prime Video has commissioned a Spanish-language reboot of the classic US comedy series I Love Lucy.

The reimagined version of the series, called All For Lucy, is being developed and produced by Endemol Shine Boomdog alongside LA- and Mexico City-based entertainment firm Elefantec Global. The companies partnered to acquire the adaptation rights.

The show will premiere exclusively on Prime Video in Latin America and the US. The format rights are licensed by ViacomCBS Global Distribution Group.

The original version of the half-hour show aired on CBS for six years from 1951 to 1957, spanning 180 episodes, and is credited as being one of the first hit TV shows to feature a Latino actor as part of the main cast.

The new iteration, set in the 21st century, tells the story of a woman who wants to be in love but doesn’t want to give up her individuality.

Mexican actress Natalia Tellez (Después De Ti) is set to star in the lead role, with Daniel Tovar (Mirreyes Vs. Godínez) playing her husband. The cast also includes Andrés Zuno and Daniel Haddad.

Endemol Shine Boomdog’s head of scripted programming Leonardo Zimbrón (Subete a Mi Moto) serves as executive producer. Joe Rendon is showrunner and director.

“We are excited to continue showing the explosive creativity of our talent in Mexico and bringing it to our Amazon Prime Video customers,” said Francisco Morales, head of content for Mexico at Amazon Prime Video. “We can’t wait for this title to join our growing list of exclusive and original series and films from around the world and continue to show the high quality of productions in Latin America.”

“I Love Lucy is the base of every comedy show ever done – and we are honoured to reimagine it with its core characters and stories. We took this classic sitcom and transformed it into a romantic comedy for 2021,” said Zimbrón.
