Amazon Prime Video develops YA thriller novel We Were Liars as drama series

Streamer Amazon Prime Video has ordered a drama series based on E Lockhart’s best-selling novel We Were Liars.

The show comes from Julie Plec’s My So-Called Company, Carina Adly MacKenzie, Universal Television and Amazon Studios and will premiere on Prime Video in more than 240 territories.

We Were Liars is a tragic love story and an amnesia thriller set on a privately owned island off the coast of Massachusetts. The young-adult novel has sold nearly three million copies worldwide.

The series is written and executive produced by Plec (The Vampire Diaries, Legacies) and Adly MacKenzie (Roswell, New Mexico, The Originals), with Plec writing the first episode and MacKenzie the second.

Also executive producing are Lockhart and Emily Cummins (The Endgame, Vampire Academy) for My So-Called Company.

The novel is published by Delacorte Press, an imprint of Random House Children’s Books.
