Abacus Media Rights, Night Train docuseries looks to dispel Conquistadors myth

Conquistadors: The Rise & Fall features reconstructions and analysis

CONTENT AMERICAS: London-based Abacus Media Rights (AMR) and Germany’s Night Train Media (NTM) are in the US aiming to drum up pre-sales for a factual series about the Conquistadors.

Currently in production in Spain and South America, Conquistadors: The Rise & Fall (6×60′) tells the story of how the year 1492 marked the start of the brutal Spanish conquest of the Americas and the beginning of the ‘Age of the Conquistadors.’

The series features dramatic reconstructions and analysis from historians and experts from the Americas and Spain to detail how the invasions led to the deaths of millions of indigenous people through oppression and enslavement.

Popular culture has painted the Conquistadors as brave Christian pioneers, but a shifting narrative has revealed a darker story to their rise and fall – one built on unthinkable atrocities and fuelled by an insatiable and blinding thirst for gold, power and glory, the producers said.

AMR and NTM are shopping the series at C21’s Content Americas marketplace and conference in Miami this week, as well as at Realscreen in Austin, Texas.

Produced by UK indie Dash Pictures and NTM, the executive producers are Daniel Sharp, Anna O’Malley, Herbert L Kloiber and James Copp.

“I’m certain this new series will enlighten audiences not only in Latin America but throughout the world,” said Jonathan Ford, managing director of AMR.
