Networks snap up Bafta show

Broadcasters in more than 75 countries have picked up the rights to the Orange British Academy Film Awards from distributor Fireworks International.

The awards ceremony, taking place at London’s Royal Opera House on February 13, will debut across Latin America on satellite channel DirecTV, while BBC America will air it in the US and UKTV will beam the show into Australia and New Zealand.

Rights to the show have also been picked up by Scandinavian group NonStop Television for Sweden, Norway, Finland, Iceland, Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania and Benelux. HBO Central Europe will air the ceremony across its bouquet of Central and Eastern European nets while Indian movie channel Sony Pix has also secured rights.

This year’s ceremony will be hosted for the fifth time by talkshow host Jonathan Ross and will be broadcast on BBC1 and BBC3 in the UK. Award nominees include movies The King’s Speech, Black Swan, Inception and The Social Network. Fireworks sells the event globally through a deal with the organiser, Bafta.
