Netflix seeks Korean first love

Global streamer Netflix has announced its latest South Korean series as romantic drama original My First First Love.

The eight-episode series, which will be available on Netflix from next year, follows a group of college students and their first forays into love as they meet new friends.

It is written by Kim Min-seo and comes from creator Jung Hyun-jung who wrote Five Enough and Discovery of Love. Oh Jin-seok will direct.

My First First Love is Netflix’s third original commission from South Korea, joining eight-part zombie historical series Kingdom and graphic novel-inspired Love Alarm.

The latest original commission supplements the two scripted acquisitions the SVoD service has made from South Korea of late, with August’s pick-up of medical drama Life following on from historical drama Mr Sunshine.

Netflix has also acquired the rights to two Russian cartoons created by Moscow-based Parovoz Animation Studio.

Leo and Tig sees a lonely leopard befriend a baby tiger and the 11-minute episodes see them explore Russia’s mountainous Altai region. Be-Be Bears is also set in the wild and centres on a group of animal friends.
