Netflix develops Winx Club spin-off

US streaming giant Netflix is developing a spin-off to children’s animated series Winx Club with Italian producer-distributor Rainbow Studios.

Winx Club WOW: World of Winx will be exclusively available in all Netflix territories including France and Germany, where the platform launched last week. The first 13×22’ season will be available by early 2016 with a second following in the autumn.

Rainbow originally produced seven seasons of Winx Club for Italian pubcaster Rai, which has aired the series since 2004, and US kids cabler Nickelodeon, which started airing it in 2011, making it the first Italian cartoon to travel successfully to the US.

The new show will see the Winx Club girls embark on an undercover journey around the world looking for talented kids in art, sports, music and science.

This week Netflix also picked British gangster drama Peaky Blinders to air exclusively in the US.
