MTVNI squeezes sales out of SpongeBob

MTV Networks International (MTVNI) has sold its iconic children’s property SpongeBob SquarePants into a number of new territories, while its partnership with Chinese pubcaster CCTV has also borne fruit.

SpongeBob has been sold to A1 (Macedonia), Teleimedi (Georgia), Armenia TV (Armenia), Network Ten (Australia), Telenica (Nicaragua), America TV (Peru) and TV Hondurena (Honduras), where it airs as part of a new branded block.

In addition, MTVNI has sold Dora the Explorer to CCTV for a broadcast run, strengthening its relations with the Chinese pubcaster.

In February, MTV China moved its streamed children’s videos to a CCTV co-branded website, nick.cctv.com, to safeguard itself against strict media regulation in the country.

Dora is also set to run through the site later this year, while SpongeBob already streams through it.
