MTV preps Ex on the Beach US

The UK version of Ex on the Beach

Youth-skewing US cablenet MTV has confirmed it is preparing a local adaptation of global hit format Ex on the Beach, which first aired on the UK version of the channel.

The social experiment sees 10 singletons from everyday life and reality shows including The Bachelorette and Big Brother head to a luxury island in search of love, only to find an old flame waiting there.

The US version, first mooted back in November, is the 11th local adaptation of the relationship format, which originated in the UK with Whizz Kid Entertainment.

The format has travelled to MTV in Brazil, the Netherlands and Poland, and has been licensed to broadcasters such as Discovery in the Nordics and Hungary through distributor Viacom International Media Networks.

Rapper and actor Romeo will present the US version of Ex on the Beach, which is being produced by US independent entertainment company Purveyors of Pop and Canada’s Entertainment One (eOne). Purveyors of Pop’s Matt Anderson and Nate Green exec produce alongside eOne’s Tara Long and Richard Hall plus MTV’s Nina L Diaz, Tiffany Lea Williams and Dan Caster.

Co-exec producers for the series are Cooper Green for Purveyors of Pop and Alicia Martino, Keith Burke and Diana Morelli for MTV.
