Love Island gets second US run

The UK version of Love Island, which airs on ITV2

US network CBS has renewed reality format Love Island for a second season.

Originally produced for the UK by ITV Studios, Love Island is a reality competition in which a group of singletons spend a number of weeks on an exotic island in search of romance.

The first season of the US version, which is produced by ITV America’s ITV Entertainment, began airing on CBS last month and concludes on August 7. Season two will air next year.

According to ITV, Love Island is CBS All Access and CBS.com’s most streamed show in over a year.

“The passion of Love Island’s audience is incredible,” said Kelly Kahl, president of CBS Entertainment.

Thom Sherman, senior executive VP of programming at CBS Entertainment, added: “After its first season, the UK version exploded via word of mouth and social media to become a huge hit, and its viewership has grown every year. We believe first-season US fans are just as passionate and engaged.”

Exec producing the US version are David George, Adam Sher, David Eilenberg, Simon Thomas, Mandy Morris, Ben Thursby, Richard Foster and Chet Fenster.
