Liverpool-based Lime has picked up the rights to adapt Still Breathing: The True Adventures of the Donnelly Brothers, the autobiographical work by Christopher and Anthony Donnelly and Simon Spence (The Stone Roses: War & Peace).

The work captures the rise of the brothers during the 1990s, from their alleged criminal origins in Wythenshawe, Manchester, to global success with their clothing brand, sported by bands such as New Order and The Stone Roses.

The book was optioned by Louise Sutton (Butterfly, Black Mirror), executive producer of scripted content at Lime, and Spence will write the show’s script. As a period drama, it marks a departure from the prodco’s usual scripted output.

“At Lime, we want to tell the stories from people from the margins of society, stories that have been neglected or ignored, and stories about people we think we know about when, in fact, we hardly know anything at all. In these stories, there’s resonance and relevance for everyone because, ultimately, they’re about the indefatigability of the human spirit,” Sutton said.
