Joe Wicks leads BBC’s fitness drive

Joe Wicks’ fitness sessions have been popular throughout the pandemic

UK pubcaster the BBC is airing celebrity-driven programmes to help keep the nation active during lockdown.

BBC Breakfast: Lockdown Life started today, with ‘the Body Coach’ Joe Wicks beginning the segment at 07.50.

Across the rest of this week, fitness celebrity Mr Motivator, rugby league player Kevin Sinfield, Olympic swimmer Adam Peaty and footballer Tyrone Mings will host slots. CBeebies presenters Maddie Moate and Greg Foot will also appear on BBC Breakfast to offer homeschooling advice.

The segments will be available on BBC iPlayer and social media for people to revisit.

In addition to the Breakfast segment, Morning Live (which returns to BBC1 on Monday January 25 at 09.15) will feature a different Strictly Come Dancing professional every day to encourage people to be active.

The BBC is also starting initiatives to help children stay active. TV presenter Mark Wright will lead fitness sessions for teenagers from 25 January on BBC2 and iPlayer. For primary school ages, BBC Bitesize Daily will feature a ‘Super Mover’ session each morning with videos linked to the national curriculum.

BBC chief content officer Charlotte Moore said: “Now more than ever, it’s so important to stay active and healthy. Our range of BBC fitness programming is suitable for viewers of all ages and will provide vital support to parents and children in lockdown as well as creative ideas to keep moving and stay fit from home.”
