Holly Hobbie hops to CBBC

Ruby Jay in Cloudco Entertainment’s Holly Hobbie

CBBC in the UK is among the international kids’ broadcasters to have picked up live-action teen series Holly Hobbie from US distributor Cloudco Entertainment.

The series is a revival of the classic girls’ character brand that was popular in the 1970s and 80s. It centres on 13-year-old Holly, played by Ruby Jay, who saves her grandmother’s café by starting an open mic night and performing original songs.

CBBC has picked up the UK rights to Holly Hobbie following its premiere on US streamer Hulu and Canadian kids’ net Family Channel earlier last year. The series will make its UK debut next summer.

Cloudco (fka American Greetings Entertainment) has also secured deals for the show with Viaplay in the Nordics, NRK Norway, SVT Sweden, RTVS Slovenia, VRT in Belgiun and i-Cable in Hong Kong, among others.

Holly Hobbie is produced by Aircraft Pictures (The Breadwinner, Bruno & Boots: This Can’t Be Happening at Macdonald Hall) in association with Cloudco Entertainment and Wexworks Media (D.N.Ace, Paw Patrol).
