HBO Max to reboot Pretty Little Liars

Pretty Little Liars ran for seven seasons up to 2017

WarnerMedia-owned SVoD service HBO Max has commissioned a reboot of teen mystery drama series Pretty Little Liars.

Loosely based on the novel series of the same name by Sara Shepard, the original Pretty Little Liars was produced by Warner Horizon Television for Freeform/ABC Family. It debuted in 2010 and ran for seven seasons, concluding in 2017.

HBO Max’s new version, Pretty Little Liars: Original Sin, is set 20 years later and centres on a new set of Little Liars. The group of disparate teens find themselves tormented by an unknown assailant and are made to pay for the secret sin their parents committed two decades ago, as well as their own.

Pretty Little Liars: Original Sin comes from writer and exec producer Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa and co-writer/exec producer Lindsay Calhoon Bring.

The series is produced by Aguirre-Sacasa’s Muckle Man Productions and Warner Bros Television Studios’ Alloy Entertainment in association with Warner Bros Television.

Alloy’s CEO Leslie Morgenstein and senior VP Gina Girolamo are also exec producing.
