Hangover duo board SyFy’s Hyperion

US cablenet Syfy is teaming up with The Hangover star Bradley Cooper and its director Todd Phillips to adapt Dan Simmons’ sci-fi novel Hyperion into an event series.

Published in 1989, Hyperion tells the story of seven pilgrims who set out on a voyage to seek the answers to the unsolved riddles of their lives. The novel is the first book in the Hyperion Cantos series and won the prestigious Hugo Award for science fiction.

Boardwalk Empire’s Itamar Moses will pen the script and work as a co-executive producer on the drama from Universal Cable Productions.

Graham King (The Departed, Argo) will exec produce via his GK Films banner, while Cooper (Limitless) and Phillips will do the same through their 22nd and Green shingle.

NBCUniversal-owned Syfy has been making a huge push into science-fiction drama lately, producing content such as 12 Monkeys, Childhood’s End and Z Nation.
