Fresh TV picks up animated arachnid

Lucas the Spider

Canadian live-action and animation prodco Fresh TV has acquired the rights to web animator Joshua Slice’s YouTube phenomenon Lucas the Spider.

Under the collaboration with Slice, Toronto-based Fresh TV plans to create ongoing series and feature-length projects with his eight-legged creation.

Created by Slice in 2017, Lucas the Spider is a series of animated shorts following the adventures of the titular character as he explores the world around him. Since his emergence, the animation has amassed more than 60 million views and 1.5 million subscribers on its YouTube channel.

Tom McGillis, president and executive producer of Fresh TV, said: “Joshua has created a character that instantly resonates with children and adults alike. From the moment we saw his creation, Fresh saw the potential to take Lucas the Spider to the next level with series, features and on a variety of other platforms.”
