French train strike set for Thursday

MIPCOM: Delegates heading home from Cannes tomorrow could find their journeys disrupted by a strike that is set to hit train services across France, but high-speed TGV services are not set to be affected.

The strike has been called by French transport union the CGT-Cheminots in response to President Macron’s attempts to reform the country’s Labour Code.

TER trains, including those running between Cannes and Nice, will be affected with a reduced timetable being put in place. Train operator SNCF said, however, that it expected TER trains across the country would run at “more than 90%” capacity.

Intercités trains will also run at about 80% of capacity, while the Paris-Toulouse and Paris-Nice night trains will not operate tonight or on Thursday evening.

Intercités lines set to be particularly affected include the Paris-Bourges-Montluçon and Paris-Orléans-Toulouse routes, where only one train out of four is expected to run.

Eurostar, Thalys and TGV services will run as usual with no disruption predicted, SNCF said, while routes around Paris will also run normally.
