FMI, Corona put up Fight in Cannes

FremantleMedia International (FMI) and London-based Corona Television are launching action series The Fight, from acclaimed director Stephen Kay, at MipTV.

The show, which has been developed for five seasons, follows conflict photographer Riley Miller and journalist Carroll Hobbs as they journey across the world, risking their lives to bring back pictures and stories.

The programme stars Covert Affairs actor Piper Perabo and was written by Kay (Covert Affairs, Sons of Anarchy), who is also on board to direct. FMI will introduce the series to buyers in Cannes.

In February, FremantleMedia took a 25% stake in Corona TV, which was formed by filmmaking duo Richard Johns and Rupert Jermyn.

The deal, which gave FremantleMedia a first-look option on all Corona TV output, was designed to help Fremantle to build its scripted pipeline and attract international coproduction funding.

Fremantle previously teamed up with Johns and Jermyn on Birds of Prey, a TV adaptation of the first three novels of Wilbur Smith’s Courtney series, scripted by JJ Connolly (Layer Cake). Corona TV is a sister company of Corona Pictures, which was established by Johns and Jermyn in London in 2009.
