Flame Media sets up German HQ

Christian Böhler and Thorsten Lork

Australian production and distribution company Flame Media Group has opened an office in Germany, which is developing a slate of programming to be presented at Mipcom.

Headquartered in Australia, Flame Media also has a production and distribution arm in London, as well as sales offices in Greece, Singapore and New York. The new German office is in Munich and aims to promote factual content in the German-speaking TV and media market.

Flame Media Germany is led by CEO and MD Christian Böhler and senior VP of development and sales Thorsten Lock, both former managers at German broadcaster ProSiebenSat.1.

The pair are focusing on local productions in Germany and international coproductions and are developing a slate of documentaries, factual entertainment and magazine programmes.

The German arm has already secured commissions from news channel Welt and is currently developing projects for Franco-German network Arte, the UK’s BBC and Channel 4, Germany’s Kabel Eins, National Geographic Deutschland, Servus TV and Super RTL, France’s RMC Découverte, TV24 in India and VOX in the US.

“The German-speaking market is promising and increasingly important for international coproductions,” said Böhler, who will present the slate of productions alongside Thorsten at Mipcom next month.
