EuropaCorp in cop drama talks

MIPCOM: France’s EuropaCorp Television has revealed it is in talks with several international distributors about Olivier Marchal’s long-awaited and troubled Canal+ series Section Zéro.

“We are also talking to non-French distributors,” said Edouard de Vesinne, EuropaCorp TV’s co-president and executive producer, during a panel session here in Cannes.

The production of Section Zéro – an ambitious, futuristic cop series of eight one-hour episodes and described as ‘Mad Max meets Soylent Green’ – has not gone according to plan, with shooting delayed several times.

Marchal, the creator of Canal+ hit cop drama Braquo and Section Zéro’s coproducer, developed the show with another production company and other writers before taking it to EuropaCorp at the end of last year.

In the spring, it was announced that EuropaCorp TV, the TV arm of Luc Besson’s movie studio, will be the new producer of the series. StudioCanal was originally attached as international distributor.
