El Rey limbers up for MMA bouts

US Hispanic cable channel El Rey Network has greenlit a 10-part documentary series that revolves around martial arts fighters competing worldwide.

Bushido Battleground follows contestants as they travel the globe to compete in mixed martial arts bouts, covering both the preparations and the fights.

The series, described as part-documentary and part-travelogue, will be exec produced by Andy Horne (Blade, Spawn) and George Chung, a former martial arts champion who is CEO and co-founder of OTT service JungoTV.

El Rey has previously aired lucha libre wrestling series Lucha Underground and offers viewers a weekly martial arts film block. Network president Daniel Tibbets said the show would “feature great storytelling, compelling fights and incredible skill.”
