Discovery greenlights VE Day doc

Discovery in the UK has commissioned a documentary from local indie Woodcut Media to mark the anniversary of the end of the Second World War in Europe.

One-hour doc Tony Robinson’s VE Day: Minute by Minute will be fronted by actor and presenter Robinson, who will share stories about the event from around the world.

Michael Wadding is producing and directing the doc, which will air on the anniversary of VE Day on May 8. Exec producing are Jon Stephens for Discovery and Kate Beal for Woodcut Media.

Woodcut Media has already presold Tony Robinson’s VE Day: Minute by Minute to France’s Histoire TV with TVF International deficit financing and distributing the show worldwide.

“Our documentary celebrates the jubilation felt by millions of people on VE Day and honours those who lost their lives during the Second World War. It explores the fascinating accounts of historical figures and ordinary people who experienced that day, and hopefully will give viewers a vivid insight into what May 8, 1945 would have felt like as events unfolded,” said Robinson.
