Crave’s Drag Race Canada on starting line

RuPaul’s Drag Race

Canadian SVoD service Crave, owned by Bell Media, is launching a local adaptation of US drag competition series RuPaul’s Drag Race.

Casting for Drag Race Canada, produced by Blue Ant Studios in association with Crave, will begin this summer, with production starting in Ontario in the autumn. The first season will comprise 10 one-hour episodes.

The adaptation will also be shown on Canadian cablenet OUTtv, which has struck a partnership with Crave to extend the reach of the series and the original US version in Canada.

Under the deal, Crave and OUTtv will also show future new seasons of RuPaul’s Drag Race on the same day they are broadcast in the US. The pair will also air a new UK version, RuPaul’s Drag Race UK, on the same day as BBC3.

The original US version of the series, produced by World of Wonder, first launched in 2009 and has since aired for 11 seasons.

Exec producing Drag Race Canada are Fenton Bailey, Randy Barbato and Tom Campbell for World of Wonder and Betty Orr, Michael Kot and Laura Michalchyshyn for Blue Ant Media. RuPaul will also exec produce, while Mike Bickerton will act as showrunner.
