CJ E&M, Endemol Shine renew Society

The Society Game pits
democracy against autocracy

South Korean media group CJ E&M and Endemol Shine are taking their reality format The Society Game into a second season.

The show was the first to emerge from a partnership between the two firms in September last year and airs on CJ E&M’s flagship TvN channel in South Korea.

The format sees the formation of two contrasting societies, one based on authoritarian rule and the other on democracy, which must compete against each other in physical and mental challenges. The first season premiered in November and a second has now been greenlit.

Lisa Perrin, CEO of Creative Networks at Endemol Shine Group, said: “CJ E&M is a brilliant partner and this social experiment uniquely engages the audience’s interest in politics.

“The first series of The Society Game was a hit with the key younger demographic in South Korea and we’re incredibly proud given the market’s reputation as a hotbed of creativity.”

The partnership between the two companies is led by DJ Lee, president of media contents business at CJ E&M, and Fotini Paraskakis, MD of Asian Operations at Endemol Shine Group.
