Cineflix spies drama sales at Mipcom

An espionage drama based in Abu Dhabi leads UK-based distributor Cineflix Rights’ slate for Mipcom this year.

Macella will run for a third season on ITV and Netflix next year

Mirage is a coproduction between Connect3 Media and Lincoln TV in partnership with Wild Bunch Germany, for France Télévisions, ZDF Germany, Bell Media Canada, and Super Channel Canada.

It tells the story of a woman who is starting over in Abu Dhabi with her son and husband. But her new expat life is plagued by espionage, and a love triangle after she discovers that her late husband is still alive.

Other dramas for Cineflix Rights include the second season of Coroner (8×60’) produced by Muse Entertainment, Back Alley Films, and Cineflix Studios for CBC Canada and NBC Universal International Networks. Starring Serinda Swan, Coroner is a story about a recently widowed, new coroner who investigates suspicious, unnatural or sudden deaths.

The final returning scripted series is the third season of UK drama Marcella (8×60’) produced by Buccaneer Media for ITV and Netflix. The International Emmy-award crime thriller comes from The Bridge creator Hans Rosenfeldt, and stars Anna Friel as a detective overcoming family trauma.

Headlining Cineflix Rights’ factual slate is Let’s Talk About Sex (3×60’), which presents some of the most outrageous and unintentionally hilarious sex education videos to parents and kids to get an uncensored take on them. It is produced by Spelthorne Community Television for the UK’s Channel 4 (C4).

Extreme Tribe: The Last Pygmies (3×60’) sees filmmaker Livia Simoka spend five months fully immersed in the daily lives of the Mbendjele tribe deep in the jungle of the Republic of the Congo, almost entirely cut off from the outside world). The unscripted series is produced by Renegade Pictures for C4.

Meanwhile, Inside Cadbury: Chocolate Secrets Unwrapped (1×60’), by Whitworth Media Limited for C4, promises unprecedented access to the secretive world of Britain’s biggest chocolate maker.

Inside The Pet Food Factory (1×60’) follows the workers and animals at one of Britain’s biggest pet food factories and is produced by Whitworth Media for C4.

Egypt’s Lost Pyramid (1×60’) produced by Lion TV and At Land Productions for C4 and Smithsonian Channel, US unearths a never-before-seen archaeological wonder. But opening the burial tomb for the first time in 4,000 years reveals new mysteries about an unknown princess and an ancient crime.

Finally, Cineflix Rights is bringing The President’s Mother (1×60’) to Mipcom. Produced for BBC Alba, TG4 Ireland and S4C Wales it charts the rags-to-riches journey of Mary Anne MacLeod – Donald Trump’s mother. It tracks her journey from an impoverished Scottish fishing village to her privileged place within one of wealthiest and most powerful property development families in New York.
