UK pubcaster Channel 5 (C5) is launching premium channel 5Prime to replace its linear catch-up service My5 and showcase new and existing programming.

5Prime, which begins broadcasting on January 16, will feature first-run originals alongside content from  flagship net Channel 5. The new channel will house a broad range of programming including factual series, documentaries and dramas, and will begin by airing RTÉ legal drama Striking Out.

It will replace My5 across all broadcast platforms, with the catch-up and box set service continuing on OTT platforms and devices.

Other series to air on the channel are new factual commission The Secret Life of Owls, from Argonon Group’s Windfall Films, Ben Fogle: New Lives in The Wild and GPs: Behind Closed Doors.

5Prime will also feature themed programme collections such as history-focused Secrets of the Past, Prime Drama and Famous Faces, Amazing Places, a compendium of C5 talent visiting travel destinations.

“As the home of Channel 5’s critically acclaimed premium content, 5Prime is a welcome and complementary addition to the Channel 5 family of channels,” said James Brown, 5Prime’s channel manager. “Viewers can enjoy appointment-to-view programmes and special-themed evenings ranging from history to natural history, drama to documentary.”
