Birds of a Feather to fly again

BBC comedy Birds of a Feather is returning to UK television after a 15-year hiatus – but this time will air on commercial broadcaster ITV.

The new 8×30′ series, expected to air next January, will focus on what happens when the trio of main characters is reunited after 15 years.

The sitcom originally ran for nine seasons on the BBC from 1989 to 1998 and is now being remade for ITV, with production starting this autumn.

Original Birds of a Feather actors Pauline Quirke, Linda Robson and Lesley Joseph will reprise their roles.

The show will be coproduced by Retort, FremantleMedia UK’s scripted comedy label, and Quirky Media.

Comedy writing partnership Laurence Marks and Maurice Gran (Goodnight Sweetheart, Mumbai Calling) have returned to pen the new show, with Gary Lawson and John Phelps.
