BBC’s Midwife continues its rounds

BBC period drama Call the Midwife has found more homes in Scandinavia and Spain.

SVT in Sweden, YLE in Finland, NRK in Norway, RUV in Iceland and AXN in Spain will air the 1950s-set show, about a group of midwives working in London’s East End. It is based on the memoirs of Jennifer Worth.

The deals were completed by BBC Worldwide.

Call the Midwife is produced by Neal Street Productions, who has already been commissioned to make a Christmas special this year and a second season next year.

Last week, US pubcaster PBS added the show to its fall schedule while it has also previously been picked up by ABC in Australia and TVNZ in New Zealand.

Neal Street, which is led by Sam Mendes, Pippa Harris and Caro Newling, has also picked up rights to adapt the bestselling Flavia de Luce mystery novels.
