BBC3 extends mockumentary

People Just Do Nothing centres on a pirate radio station

BBC3 has ordered third and fourth seasons of People Just Do Nothing, the mockumentary show from UK indie Roughtcut Television.

The series, which focuses on a pirate radio station and its crew, is produced by Jon Petrie (QI, Anna & Katy) and debuted as a pilot on the BBC’s VoD service iPlayer in 2012, becoming one of the platform’s most-shared programmes.

It was part of the first batch of iPlayer pilots commissioned for BBC3 as part of its Feed My Funny strand, and was ordered after execs saw five-minute webisodes from the creators on YouTube. It is also the first comedy to have originated on BBC iPlayer that has subsequently been commissioned as a series on a BBC channel.

The UK pubcaster is in the process of moving youth-skewing BBC3 to an online-only service.
