BBC1 re-examines Jack the Ripper

BBC1 in the UK has ordered a one-off special about notorious murderer Jack the Ripper, with actor Emilia Fox co-presenting.

Charlotte Moore

Jack the Ripper (working title, 1×60′) is from BBC Studios and will use modern techniques to explore the serial killer’s reign of terror in the East End of London that saw five women murdered between August and November 1888.

Original crime scene photographs and a virtual reality dissection table will feature as Fox and David Wilson, emeritus professor of criminology, attempt to uncover who the Ripper was and whether he was responsible for other murders.

The show, which will air later this year, was commissioned by Charlotte Moore, BBC director of content and Tom McDonald, head of commissioning for natural history and specialist factual at the pubcaster. The executive producer is Steve Crabtree and the commissioning editor is Craig Hunter.
