Dynasties took the BBC’s NHU four years to produce

Broadcasters around the world have struck pre-sale deals with BBC Studios (BBCS) for its blue-chip natural history show Dynasties.

The five-part series is from the BBC’s Natural History Unit (NHU) and is presented by Sir David Attenborough. It has taken four years to produce and includes filming from around the globe, following five of the world’s most celebrated but endangered animals as they do whatever is required to survive.

The agreements have been struck in Germany (WDR), New Zealand (TVNZ), Canada (Blue Ant Media), Latin America (Discovery) and Spain (Telefonica).

Broadcasters in other territories including Belgium (VRT), Netherlands (NPO), Sweden (SVT), Denmark (DR), Iceland (RUV), Czech Republic (FTV Prima, Ceska Televize), Estonia (ETV) and Georgia (Edemi) have also picked up the show.

Dynasties is coproduced with BBC America and France Télévisions, with Sony BBC Earth in India and the BBC Earth channels in Africa, Nordics, Asia, Poland and CEE also premiering the show.

Paul Dempsey, president of BBCS global markets, said NHU had “surpassed itself with an incredibly intimate and affecting portrait of some of the most celebrated and endangered species on earth.”

Dynasties, which gets its global premiere at Mipcom on Monday October 15 at 09.00, joins other factual shows on BBCS’s slate including Serengeti (working title) and Earth’s Great Rivers.
