BBC greenlights Initial gamer

UK public broadcaster BBC1 has commissioned Total Wipeout producer Initial to make a Saturday evening gameshow in which contestants are physically ejected from the set.

In 101 Ways To Leave A Gameshow (8×60′), eight participants are quizzed on their general knowledge before the losers of each round leave with the help of devices such as cannons, rockets and catapults.

It is shot inside a studio that moves up and down inside a purpose-built 100ft tower and the unlucky contestants are carried to safety by zip wires.

Initial’s parent, Endemol, shopped the 101 Ways format at Mipcom last October.

Initial created the BBC1 version of international format hit Total Wipeout, which has run in an early Saturday evening slot for two seasons, with a third kicking off this Saturday.

Initial’s Andy Rowe, who helmed Wipeout, will executive produce 101 Ways. The show was commissioned by the Beeb’s controller of entertainment commissioning Mark Linsey and is set to air later this year.
