BBC Arabic, Sky NZ pick Sign of the Times

Eco-Heroines spotlights the work of six female conservationists

BBC Arabic and Sky in New Zealand have picked up docuseries Sign of the Times from TVF International, as the factual distributor sold a raft of female-themed content ahead of International Women’s Day.

Sign of the Times is a five-part series offering female perspectives on a man’s world. It was commissioned by Dutch pubcaster NPO and reversioned by TVF for international broadcasters.

Meanwhile, Turkish pubcaster TRT, Medialaan in Belgium and US cablenet BYUtv have acquired 48-minute special Miss Amazing, a doc celebrating The National Miss Amazing Pageant for girls with physical and learning disabilities.

Elsewhere, The Daughter Tree has been picked up by VRT in Belgium, Spain’s RTVE, TG4 in Ireland, AfriDocs and Al Jazeera Witness. The film, from award-winning director Rama Rau, follows an Indian midwife and activist as she challenges female infanticide.

Al Jazeera and pan-Nordic streaming service Curio have also acquired Eco-Heroines, a 6×52′ factual series highlighting the work being done by six female conservationists around the world to save local species from extinction.

During the UK Screenings this week, TVF is launching additional female-led docs including The She Lift Story from Attitude Pictures, which follows girls and women with physical differences who come together to overcome social stigma. Also on TVF’s slate is Bulletproof, an eight-part series focusing on young people who have suffered life-changing injuries.
