Batman prequel bound for StarzPlay

Jack Bannon plays the young Alfred Pennyworth

Pennyworth, the forthcoming Batman prequel drama series from Lionsgate-owned Starz, will air on the US cablenet’s streaming service StarzPlay in Europe and Latin America.

From Warner Horizon Scripted Television, Pennyworth centres on the early career of Batman’s butler, Alfred Pennyworth. The former British SAS soldier forms a security company in 1960s London and works with young billionaire Thomas Wayne – the father of Bruce, alias Batman.

Pennyworth is played by Jack Bannon (The Imitation Game), while Ben Aldridge (Our Girl, Reign, Fleabag) stars as Wayne.

Based on DC characters created by the late Bob Kane and Bill Finger, the 10-episode drama is exec produced by Bruno Heller (Gotham, The Mentalist, Rome) and Danny Cannon (Gotham, CSI).

StarzPlay will launch the series this fall in the UK, Germany, Italy, Spain, Ireland, Belgium, Luxembourg, Austria and Latin America.
