Amazon to launch Channels in Canada

US-based e-commerce giant Amazon has revealed plans to launch its Prime Video Channels service in Canada, allowing viewers to stream content from a range of video providers and linear TV networks via the Prime Video app.

Prime Video Channels is already available in countries including the UK and the US. Amazon did not reveal a launch date for the service in Canada, but said it will be available “soon”.

SVoD services that will be accessible to Canadian viewers through Prime Video Channels include NBCUniversal-owned Hayu, US premium cablenet Starz, kids’ pay TV network Nickelodeon and StackTV, a multichannel package from Corus Entertainment.

StackTV comprises Corus channels Global, Food Network Canada, HGTV Canada, W Network, History, Adult Swim, Slice, Showcase, National Geographic, Teletoon, Treehouse and YTV.

The Corus service will cost C$12.99 (US$9.64) a month on top of the C$7.99 (US$5.93) monthly Prime Video fee. Subscription fees for the other services range from C$3.99 (US$2.96) to C$9.99 (US$7.41).

“Prime Video Channels allows us to team up with Canadian content producers and broadcasters like Corus Entertainment to build unique products like StackTV for our Canadian Prime members,” said Greg Hart, VP of Amazon Prime Video.
