A+E creates enthusiast role for Murphy

US cablenet operator A+E Networks has upped Christian Murphy to a new role overseeing programming in “enthusiast genres.”

Murphy has been appointed head of enthusiast brands, reporting to senior VP of programming partnerships Jim Hoffman.

The position gives Murphy oversight of programming and strategy that creates branded, destination programme blocks focused on content categories such as the military, pets, collectables and travel.

He will also oversee and expand existing programming blocks Home.Made, Drive and Outdoors, which mix long- and short-form content, airing in weekend daytime slots on A&E and History and in primetime on FYI.

Recent programming examples include Vacation Rental Potential, The Ride that Got Away, American Beauty Star, Toymakerz, PowerNation and Scraps. Murphy is also the creator, producer and host of All You Need to Know, a long- and short-form franchise that showcases innovation in enthusiast industries.

Prior to launching the enthusiast brands group under A+E Networks president Paul Buccieri, Murphy was senior VP of daytime and programming partnerships. Before that, he led programming and marketing for A+E Networks’ international group.
