Job Description:

Sonar is currently looking for an experienced Vice President, International Distribution (Eastern Europe, Russia/CIS, Middle East & Israel) to join its London office.

The position will report to the London-based Executive Vice President, International Distribution and be responsible for all facets of Eastern Europe, Russia/CIS, Middle East & Israel sales.  The Vice President's core job responsibility is to maximize revenues from the distribution of the television movies and mini-series library catalogue as well as from new television movies limited series and series.  The VP will plan, direct and execute program international sales activities with a concentration on Eastern Europe, Russia/CIS, Middle East & Israel and have direct sales responsibilities for key markets.

Responsibilities include: 
  • Develop annual sales budgets 
  • Achieve quarterly and annual sales budgets 
  • Perform monthly and quarterly variance analyses
  • Manage the negotiation and closing of deals with broadcasters and digital platforms; provide guidance on team negotiations
  • Increase sales of programming across Eastern Europe, Russia/CIS, Middle East & Israel
  • Ensure team has knowledge of commercial terms paid in territory markets across a wide range of product genres
  • Ensure Sonar is achieving the best commercial terms for its programming
  • Develop strategies to grow business, including processes and structures
  • Serve to establish and enhance relationships with clients for Sonar’s benefit
  • Follow up with clients on requests and coordinate solutions to contract/distribution issues
  • Work closely with Sales support staff, Business Affairs, Finance, Distribution and Marketing in conceiving, developing and implementing product packaging strategies
  • Monitor the marketplace for changes and trends that affect sales activities
  • Utilize research effectively
  • Provide creative and marketing input
  • Attend pertinent industry functions 

Job Requirements:

The ideal candidate is a highly experienced sales executive with an outstanding track record in international distribution with strong expertise in scripted content, good team management capabilities and the ability to take a strategic view of the business end of each market across Eastern Europe, Russia/CIS, Middle East & Israel.  In addition, this person is an expert deal maker who can drive sales directly in key markets.  The position requires the ability to work cross-culturally, adapt to local market conditions and establish positive relationships across the region.  As a manager in a matrixed environment, this person must be able to exert influence and achieve success not only through leadership and sales ability, but also via persuasion, market knowledge, intellect and personal relationships.
  • Minimum 6 years proven experience as a sales executive for major international program distributors or studios

KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS 
  • Ability to handle high volume of sales
  • Working knowledge of the television and digital business in Eastern Europe, Russia/CIS, Middle East & Israel
  • Knowledge of multiple languages required
  • Proven effective leadership and management skills
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Must be an effective presenter

OTHER ABILITIES
  • Must be willing and able to travel internationally
  • Must be well known in the industry
  • Must be a confident individual who is a quick learner and self-starter
  • Must demonstrate calmness and composure under pressure
  • Very strong planning, organizational, time management skills required; must be able to manage multiple tasks and meet deadlines
  • Excellent ability to interact professionally with all levels of personnel and management required
  • Must promote communication across the business, engage others, articulate reasons for decisions, and be open to the opinions of others
  • Must be detail oriented
  • Must be a team player; must be able to adapt and lead in a team environment
  • Must be able to work independently with minimal supervision
  • Must quickly learn Sonar’s catalogue and stay abreast of projects in development/production
