ZDFE secures C4’s Before We Die

MIPCOM: German distributor ZDF Enterprises (ZDFE) has picked up the sales rights, excluding North America, to Channel 4’s forthcoming crime thriller Before We Die.

Based on the Swedish series of the same name, Before We Die follows a detective from the organised crime unit who faces tough choices when she discovers her estranged son is an undercover informant in a brutal murder investigation involving Eastern European drug gangs.

The six-part crime thriller is produced by Eagle Eye Drama in association with Caviar. Written and adapted by Matt Baker and directed by Belgian director Jan Matthys, it stars Lesley Sharp, Vincent Regan and Patrick Gibson.

Filming is taking place in England and Belgium, with the finished series slated to air on the commercially funded UK pubcaster in spring 2021.

Exec producing are Eagle Eye Drama CEO Walter Iuzzolino and chief operating officer Jo McGrath, along with Bert Hamelinck.

ZDFE is also the distributor of the original Swedish version, which was sold to Google, iTunes, Amazon, NPO in the Netherlands, Australia’s SBS, VRT in Belgium, Okko in Russia and Germany’s ZDF and ProSiebenSat.1, amongst others.
