ZDF, Intaglio link up for drama duo

German public broadcaster ZDF is in development on two new drama series from Game of Thrones exec producer Frank Doelger’s new production shingle, Intaglio Films.

The prodco was set up as a joint venture between the pubcaster’s commercial arm, ZDF Enterprises (ZDFE), and German producer Beta Film in 2018.

Now it is developing Doing Good and Concordia, two English-language projects for ZDF and the international market.

Both will be presented during the In Conversation: Frank Doelger, Intaglio Films session at C21Media’s Content London event next month.

Doing Good is created by Peter Berry (Gangs of London, Prime Suspect) and set in the world of fictional human rights organisation Cyrus, exploring the moral compromises decent people have to make in order to do good in an evil world.

Written by Mike Walden (The Frankenstein Chronicles, U Want Me 2 Kill Him), Concordia is about a community that has embraced total surveillance. Millions of cameras link to an AI system that monitors every aspect of citizens’ lives and suspected crimes are prevented before they happen.

Doelger, creative director at Intaglio Films, will exec produce both series with Friedemann Goez (Atlantic Crossing, Hudson & Rex) producing.

The projects join the Intaglio slate alongside forthcoming series The Swarm, an eight-part drama adapted from Frank Schätzing’s bestselling environmental thriller directed by Emmy winner Alan Taylor (Game of Thrones, Mad Men) and coproduced by ndF International productions.
